Beautiful and graceful, butterflies have to go through an entire transformation cycle in order to end up in their much-admired form. In fact, the butterfly is the BEST symbol of change:
“B” for Beauty, in its entirety;
“E” for Elegance, in its appearance and movement;
“S” for Surrender, to change;
“T” for Transformation, into a better version,
As actress Drew Barrymore says “Everyone is like a butterfly, they start out ugly and awkward and then morph into beautiful and graceful butterflies that everyone loves.”
And isn’t that true? We are not talking here about our physical appearance. We are talking about the fact that most of us find it hard to define ourselves in the earlier years of life as we don’t truly know what we like or want. But, just like the butterfly, we transform over time and turn into a far better version of ourselves.
“Life is a journey and it’s about growing and changing and coming to terms with who and what you are and loving who and what you are” - Kelly McGillis.
Life is about embracing change with the purpose of developing and improving ourselves. The butterfly is the ideal example of patience, desire to change and faith that can lead to a spectacular result. When a caterpillar turns into a chrysalis, it surrenders its old self completely to disintegrate into liquid form. And from this liquid, it starts to re-emerge as a glorious new being. Beautiful, free, and with wings to take flight.
Change is not an easy process. But facing your fears and having faith in yourself opens up infinite possibilities in your life. Look at change as the ability to put on wings and fly to new realms. See them as opportunities instead of challenges and make the most of what this life has to offer. Just like the caterpillar, it is not easy to surrender your past and let go. But when it did, it made the impossible possible and so can you.
